Careers · Office & dispatch

No openings right now. We still want to hear from you.

Anacortes Airport Shuttle & Private Car Service is a locally owned transportation company based in Anacortes, Washington. We are not currently hiring for office or dispatch positions, but we keep a list of people we would want to talk to first when that changes. If the work below sounds like yours, send us your details.

Looking to drive?

This page covers office and dispatch work. Drivers partner with us as owner-operators with their own vehicles, which is a different arrangement entirely — see Drive With Us.

Honest first

Why this page exists when we have nothing open

Most careers pages list roles that were filled months ago, or invite applications into an inbox nobody reads. We would rather say plainly where we are: this is a small local company, the office team is small, and positions do not come up often.

When one does, we would much rather call someone who already told us they were interested than start from scratch with a job board and a hundred applications from people who have never heard of Anacortes.

So this is a list, not a vacancy. Send us your details and we will keep them on file. If something opens that fits, you hear from us before it goes public. If nothing does, you will not hear from us at all — and we would rather say that than promise updates we will not send.

A list, not a vacancy. When something opens, you get the call before the job board does.

The work

What office and dispatch roles look like here

These are the functions our office covers. In a company this size they overlap heavily — nobody does only one of them.

Dispatch

Scheduling and vehicle assignment

Building pickup times backwards from flights and sailings, assigning drivers and vehicles, and rerouting when a flight slips or a ferry is cancelled. This is the core of the operation.

Reservations

Bookings and customer contact

Taking calls, quoting trips, handling changes, and answering the questions a booking form cannot. Most of it is phone work with people who are about to travel.

Coordination

Driver communication

Confirming assignments, passing on travel-day changes, and being the person a driver calls when something goes wrong at 4:00 AM.

Admin

Billing and accounts

Corporate account invoicing on Net 30, reconciling trips, chasing what needs chasing, and keeping records straight for tax and insurance.

Support

Problem resolution

Lost property, service complaints, rebooking after a cancelled flight. Doing this well is most of what a reputation is built on.

Growth

Marketing and content

Occasional work on the website, local listings, reviews, and the seasonal campaigns around cruise season and the Tulip Festival.

Fit

Who does well in this work

Suits you if

  • You are calm on the phone with someone who is stressed
  • You can hold several moving bookings in your head at once
  • You know this region, or want to
  • You are comfortable with early starts and shift patterns
  • You would rather solve a problem than escalate it
  • You like small teams where the work varies daily

Probably not if

  • You want a narrowly defined role with fixed boundaries
  • You need a large team and a formal structure around you
  • Nine-to-five is non-negotiable for you
  • You prefer written communication to phone calls
  • You want a promotion ladder mapped out in advance

Useful but not required

  • Dispatch or logistics experience
  • Travel, hospitality, or aviation background
  • Bookkeeping or accounts work
  • A second language, particularly Spanish
  • Local knowledge of Skagit County and the islands
Shift work is real here

We run 24 hours by reservation, which means the office covers hours the rest of the county does not. A 3:00 AM pickup needs someone reachable at 3:00 AM. If that is a dealbreaker, it is better to know now than three weeks in.

Owner operator vehicle for Anacortes Airport Shuttle Owner operators
Drivers

If you want to drive, that is a different page

We do not employ drivers. Every driver who works with us is an owner-operator running their own business, with their own vehicle, their own commercial insurance, and their own licensing.

That arrangement is not for everyone, but for the right person it is considerably better than employment: booked and prepaid trips on agreed fares, work scheduled in advance rather than chased through an app, and no obligation to accept anything that does not fit your week.

The requirements, the split of responsibilities, and the application form are all on the Drive With Us page.

Questions

Careers questions

Are you hiring right now?

Not for office or dispatch positions. We keep a list of interested people and contact them first when something opens, which is what the form on this page is for.

Do you hire drivers as employees?

No. Drivers work with us as independent owner-operators using their own vehicles, insurance, and licensing. That is covered in full on our Drive With Us page.

What does dispatch work actually involve?

Building pickup times backwards from flights and sailings, assigning drivers and vehicles, and rerouting when something changes. It is the core of how the company runs, and it involves a fair amount of phone contact with both travellers and drivers.

Are the hours nine to five?

No. We operate 24 hours by reservation, so the office covers hours the rest of the county does not. Early starts and shift patterns are part of the work rather than an occasional exception.

Do I need transportation industry experience?

It helps but is not required. Calm phone manner, the ability to hold several moving bookings in your head, and local knowledge matter more than a background in this specific industry.

Is the work remote or on-site?

State whether office and dispatch roles are on-site in Anacortes, remote, or hybrid. Applicants will want to know before they apply, particularly for shift-based dispatch work.

How long do you keep my details on file?

State your retention period for unsolicited applications, and make sure it matches the retention section of your Privacy Policy. You can ask us to remove them at any time by emailing info@anacortesairportshuttle.com.

Will you tell me if nothing comes up?

Honestly, no. If a suitable role opens we will contact you. If none does, you will not hear from us, and we would rather say that plainly than promise updates we will not send.

Two ways to work with us

Office and dispatch roles go on the list above. Driving is an owner-operator partnership with its own application.
